How do i create a Pedestal

Basically, i want to create a pedestal that, when right clicked with an item, put said item onto the pedestal. I also want to be able to tell what kind of item is on it for specific purposes.

Im Guessing this block needs an inventory (Correct Me if im wrong)

and also i'll need a procedure to do this.

How would i go about this?

Edit: also, how would i display the item ontop of the pedestal?

Edit 2: want to clarify no gui, just right click the block and get the item on the pedestal
