I want to know how to make a Milk Bucket turn into a spoiled milk bucket (which I have made an item for) after a certain amount of time sitting in a chest.

I want to know how to make a Milk Bucket turn into a spoiled milk bucket (which I have made an item for) after a certain amount of time sitting in a chest.
Maybe have a global timer once it is added to the player's inventory, and make it change to the custom bucket.
How do I make a global timer? Thank you for your help!
