How to stop a Block from Generating Naturally

I'm making a mod that adds a custom version of Gold Ore but since i cant just replace a Vanilla block i was wondering if i could just stop normal Gold Ore from generating

You actually probably can make it replace normal gold ore, just make your custom ore extremely common (as in, practically everywhere) and set it to only be able to replace gold ore.
