I made a custom potion. Then I went and made a recipe for it and selected the brewing stand one, but I can choose my custom potion. Which means I can't brew it at all.
Yes sadly this isn't a feature yet, you'll have to make a food item, make it drinkable and apply the potion effect when the item is comsumed.
