New Folder for clone remote is "Empty"

My friend and I are trying to use the clone remote. We did all of the Github permissions and stuff, but when I try to connect to his workspace, I can't make a new local folder for the workplace. According to Pylo's tutorial, I should be able to select a directory and create a local copy. When I do this I am brought to the file manager instead. When I create a new folder, it says that the folder is empty. Please help!
