Block will only change when another block update is nearby

I'm trying to make some leaves that regenerate with time, so I have some normal leaves that should turn into leaves that have bananas, but they never change, they only change if i put a block nearby https://imgur.com/oQqlzvx and is triggered by the update tick. Can anybody help with this problem, I'm new and I can't find a solution for my problem anywhere.
