Plugin that overrides core templates

I need either an example of how to create a plugin that overrides generator plugin (let's take 1.20.1 forge from 2024.3 as example) or some tips for how to do it.

I'm trying to add a new component to existing template (overlay mod element).

GitHub example plugin seems to be outdated.
