I wanted to make a material for crafting a pickaxe intermediate between stone and wood, and then I thought, why not replace the wooden one, and remove the crafting of the vanilla pickaxe, adding my own similar one.
I made a tutorial on this - https://youtu.be/uhnH_JVG3fk. I show how to do this is a datapack on an old version of MCreator, but it still works.

You can't erase but can change it. Actually, you can make the recipe with unobtainable items in survival (bedrock, command block etc). But you must make the "recipe registry name" the item's id.
