You have a few choices. Either use commandblock codes to make an armorstand hold the foods in skotvarea for x amt of time. I don't know how to do that one.
Or make a second block model with your drying meats on it. Then do an if/when on one model, replace with other model. Then repeat on the drying model backwards. Keep in mind that this way it counts as a new block. On the drying model, just make sure it says no creative in tab section.
But they still can retrieve it with commands.
Third way is custom element with coding and blockstates, thing I don't know how to do
