We already started to work on 1.18 support. Most of things didn't change, but everything related to generation (didn't check for structures) however) changed. Ores... well everything has been changed. Biomes don't use a surface builder anymore. DImensions also changed, but I don't remember what exactly.
I don't think so, snapshots aren't published if they could break workspaces just because of some elements being not ported. This would mean moderators being tired to death with questions "why my workspace doesn't work". To be frank - MCR being worked out for 1.18 is already awesome news, taking the fact that previously it had some delays in terms of following recent versions. Giving some time for features being polished isn't really that much, and having whole content being correctly ported is also important to avoid some simple issues that would come from unfinished generator.
