Does X/Y/Z position of entity with raytrace distance target air?

Does X/Y/Z position of entity with raytrace distance target air?

I've been trying to create a certain x/y/z value detection system, but I am not clear if this system can even work, as it is using the "Look x/y/z position of [entity] with raytrace distance". It has different fluid modes and block modes but it seems like it isn't able to target air blocks? If it can please tell me how I can select that because I would greatly appreciate it.
