Miniblock Placement Help

I am trying to make smaller versions of blocks, and I want to be able to place them next to and/or on top of each other within a normal block space. I have successfully made the smaller block in blockbench, and I have changed the bounding box to be 8 wide instead of the usual 16 wide, but I can't figure out how to allow them to stack. Image below shows how they currently stack, acting as though they take up a whole block space.

Minecraft screenshot. Shows 1/2 scale crafting tables sitting on grass. Some tables are "stacked", appearing to float in mid air.

this seems a bit tricky to do as all minecraft blocks take up at least 1 grid tile of space, but you could make it like a sea pickle or pink petals so that when it is right clicked with itself it replaces itself with a new block that has a model with 2, 3 or 4 of the block in it. other than that, i don't think you can... sorry :P
