Why is Mcreator so frowned upon in the MC community?
Fri, 06/05/2020 - 15:21 (edited)

Anyone else find that besides here, Mcreator is hated in MC communities, even banned in some?

Some people think that it is not fair that MCreator makes making mods much easier and faster than coding. This would be the main reason I guess.

I think a lot of times they assume the quality of Mcreator mods is less than regular mods due to certain restrictions like configs and such. However this actually can be bypassed, I know on PMC they don't usually allow Mcreator Mods due to their quality but if your mod gets popular enough and shows good quality then they don't bother you.. I think if you can prove to people that your mod is of high quality they won't bother you.. Most people don't believe my mod is used with Mcreator and thus I get no backlash from it :)

Actually everyone here is…
Sun, 11/18/2018 - 21:30

Actually everyone here is correct, unless you said something weird. I've seen many hate posts on "other" forum-like websites.

They don't like MCreator because:

-They think it's still the same limited mod maker (they think it hasn't changed at all in years)

-They think everyone who uses MCreator don't know how to make mods

-They think some things are never going to be added to MCreator if they do know how it works

-They think the mod generator cannot be edited (files that were made by MCreator)

My Answers:

-It is not the same mod maker as it used to be, it's waaaaaaay better!

-People can use MCreator to create any mod, mods are made from imagination, so don't judge people by their mods.

-MCreator actually added features I longed for, so, well done team of MCreator developers!

-There is a code editor in MCreator, you can add advanced features or edit like your on a java development platform application

I think the reason MCreator…
Mon, 11/19/2018 - 00:04

I think the reason MCreator is infamous in the MC Community is because of the past, and the present in a way.

Some people see it as a way for "inexperienced people" to make mods.

They always say that the program is restricted.

Always saying their mods are always just mods that add colored versions of stuff (Though I am one to talk).

Saying the mods are lower quality. The quality of a mod is subjective. I have seen mods that add a set of tools and blocks that don't have the best textures in the world or even spelling sometimes.

The methods of modding are different. I am aware that certain features may not be possible yet, but that doesn't mean this is the same MCreator in the past.

We should all accept the fact that we know how to make a mod in some orderly fashion. Whether or not the mod is good is up to your discretion.

I have used this program ever since I 2015 and while I am starting to code my mods, I still get giddy upon the arrival of a new version of MCreator. I will continue to use MCreator no matter what these people say.

Yeah the code may be awkward at times, so learn from it. Learn how to make your own code then.

If you don't want to use MCreator, no one is stopping you from learning how to code.

If you want to use MCreator, no one is still stopping you. Do what you want to do.

The points users above made…
Mon, 11/19/2018 - 16:46

The points users above made are quite good points. There is some issue that people still think that:

  • you can't see or edit the code in MCreator, although a good code editor with many IDE like features is now included
  • users are limited by entering values in predefined fields - with new procedure tool, this is not true anymore
  • MCreator makes messy code - this is not true anymore, we have improved this a lot in last updates, the code is formatted, imports organized - the only point that could get improvement are some more complex procedures that can still have quite complicated code, but the main reason for this is to handle all the exceptions and cases to reduce the possibility of bugs in the final mod

I really wish that people that don't like MCreator would check it again and see that we worked quite hard on MCreator in the last year to make it a better modding tool.

I think it's MAINLY because of this way of Modding, to the community, is incorrect just for being unoriginal.

Wed, 11/21/2018 - 02:28

I think because, as pretty much everybody said above, it's the quality of the mods that come out of MCreator. Sometimes, a mod is basically just re-coloring things in Minecraft. Personally, I don't mind that. In fact, I love mods that do that. I even make mods that do that. So, I personally accept MCreator. Also, people say it's for beginners or "amateurs."  So? I know that's not the point of MCreator, but it helped a lot of people like me who can't really mod well. Just my thoughts. Thank you Klemen, and everyone else who is involved w/ development of MCreator.

"It helped a lot of people who can't mod well." I am not criticizing anyone. I mean people like me who don't have much or any experience in coding or modeling.

Wed, 11/21/2018 - 20:51

It's still missing "basic" features such as block states and config files. It also still shows the outdated Techne software in the Tools tab and doesn't show an up-to-date link for purchasing Cubik Studio Pro.

bauerbach, you can open a support ticket and you can be sure it will be fixed sooner or later. Regarding Techne, there is already a ticket in progress for this. Regarding cubik pro, I will check and fix this bug.

Blockstates are planned for future updates too. Config files could be added, but you are one of the first users that I heard requesting this feature, but we can add it, but you can also code it yourself if you need in in current versions.

Regarding the addition of…
Tue, 11/27/2018 - 00:09

Regarding the addition of config files to MCreator, I GREATLY support this idea because I, personally, wished a long time for the addition of support for these in MCreator. As I can say with certainty... I have tried many, MANY times to make one myself in MCreator only to fail...  So it's definitely something I'd wish for.

Btw, you said you can add config files in new versions of MCreator but... it deletes immediately any new codes that could possibly add some new kind of function to the game... like a camshake or the throwing of blocks in a shockwave pattern or config files... This might be unique to me though :(

But I can say for certainty that I am not the only one who tried to add in config files and failed...

Well I will put my 2 cents…
Tue, 11/27/2018 - 01:51

Well I will put my 2 cents to this topic and say that all of this hate about MCreator is overrated and people who are hating it are dump, they hating it because it makes mod making easier but that's OK they have right to criticise it but let's look at this from different side, they are hating because of what?

Making mods easier?

Simplifying mod making to clicking buttons?

Even if so MCreator was made with intention to allow more people to modify Minecraft and for education purpose which is actually a first step to actuall coding, they should take mod making with distance and ask themselves one question which is why they wanted to learn java was it for modding or education purose?

Because hey they know java they can doo something else than Minecraft and nothing stops them.

From the other hand we can also start hating Fnaf games because they were made in software that does not require any programing knowledge just clicking buttons

Another thing that is really dump is that "MCreator mods are crashing every 5sec" they haven't tested any mod probably and even if they had tested any they probably didn't even know about that.

That's it from me and sorry if I have offended someone, we can't stop them hating MCR but we can make mods that can stand with top mods out there :)
