Translations of the user interface

Issue description

Although this was at first not planned, we might consider adding the translation to the interface to other languages. There are some points that need to be highlighted, though:

  1. Gradle console error logs, block, item, entity names, and such elements can not be translated
  2. We will need translators willing to offer translation to other languages and give us the rights to own their translations in order to distribute them with the software
  3. The website and support would remain English-only

This ticket is here currently to count the upvotes to see how many support this feature (keep in mind that implementation of such system will take us time from developing other features), for discussion, and to see how many translators we have (leave a comment if you think you know English and your language well enough to provide quality translations and feel you would be ready to do translations).

Issue comments

The website and support would remain English-only.

I  understand that you can’t have support in other languages than English, but why don’t you add support for few other languages for the Wiki? Wiki contributors could make or edit pages in English and their first language. The main pages will still be in English, but users could select another language supported by the page. Is your reason to don’t do this is the complex feature or do you have other reasons for the website (except support) or the Wiki?

I'm Italian And My Professors Says I'm Good To Translate, I offer myself... LoL

I did not think of only making wiki support other languages, but as you guessed, this is a big feature for the website itself :) I suggest we move this to a forum topic as this ticket is not for this topic directly.

Hello I could translate to German and I love MCreator I want to support where I can lg MrScautHD :)

So i say now everything i can translate in one comment: German and Italian

Excuse me for getting into this matter without offering to translate the program, but there are many people who speak Spanish who find it difficult to use the program, and most countries in the world are Spanish-speaking.

Greetings.

Sorry, what I mean is that Spanish is spoken in more countries in the world than other languages. If you are looking, it will appear that English is the most spoken language by people, but by country it is different, there are more Spanish-speaking countries than English-speaking ones

and in any case it is always useful that this is the Spanish language, you are excluding an entire group of people

If we will make software translatable and there are people willing to translate, there will be a Spanish version. Developers do not speak Spanish so someone else from the community will have to contribute the translation :)

I can translate it for Turkish. Translating is like a hobby for me.

How many upvotes are you waiting for this? Or what are you waiting for to start this project? Every day I'm getting more and more excited than the previous day for this.

How many upvotes are you waiting for this? Or what are you waiting for to start this project?

Now this does not sound really friendly toned.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, but it is two persons (only me fully active, though) on this project (in their free time as a hobby, this is not a commercial project). Check tracker, over 100 tickets open (plus well over 300 internal tickets in my TODO waiting to be fixed). I can't deliver all at once, I am a human living with other things to do.

I am working on this, please be patient.

I'm sorry if it sounded unfriendly, I didn't wanted to do that. After looking to the message again, it really sounds rude. I'm sorry for that, I think I forgot to check what I've written. It's just my excitement and wrong word choices. I apologize for that and I understand your situation. It could be really hard to work on a project like this.

I can confirm that so far procedure system and help tips are 100% translatable, UI still has a long way to externalizing all texts in a lang file, though.

But we are progressing ;)

There are a few 1000 of translation groups to be translated, each containing from 1 to ~50 words.

Plus in-app tips that can be translated too.

I am just externalizing all these words to lang files, community will then translate them, I do not speak all languages of the world hehe

It could be still a little bit early to ask this but, where will you start the localization? On the website, or on GitHub, or on a localization website like Crowdin, or diffrent.

Crowdin would cost me 75$ per month, it will be files likely if I don't find an alternative.

The cheapest localization website I know is POEditor, it is free until 1000 strings which probably isn't enough for this project, then it is 14.99$/month with max 3000 strings. This is what I found, but in my opinion it is still expensive. After all MCreator gets updated once in a few months, and It doesn't makes any sense to pay 40$ for every updates translation. Files are the best ✊

There are some self-hosted free services, I will look into this, or files as said. Each team for language can then manage their files and release them when ready or send to me for inclusion into the core.

I was just trranslating things on Crowdin as usual, and out of curiosity I checked out the prices and I saw something I didn't expected to see. This:

After seeing this, I did some research about this and found out that it is limited than others. For example you can't add any managers or make it a private project or you can't set a custom domain name for the project and some other things. I just wanted to inform you about this.

Wow, this is nice to hear, thank you for letting me know. I will look into this.

Although I am leaning towards GitHub repo at the moment to keep things centralized :)

This ticket will likely be postponed until open-sourcing and then moved forwards if there will be community initiative to externalize all hardcoded texts into translations file.

We wait the other String to translate. You are not the only user to have helped with the French translations, Loic.

We wait the other String to translate.

Oh I didn’t see your message Klemen. Do you plan to open-source MCreator for the 2020.5 or is there still too much work to do?

I don't want to promise anything as always, not even I know schedule right now. I work full-time job alongside MCreator at the moment and am getting overworked.

Although my English is not good, I will try to provide some help in translating Chinese-traditional. I look forward to your development of the "translation" function. Perhaps it is a cultural difference, I need to stay for a few seconds at some buttons to click them bravely.

Always better than blindly clicking them ;)
