Mcreator isn't working, and I am forced to use a version that is 2-3 years old because of it

Every time I load up Mcreator and create a workspace I get a message "workspace setup failed" "gradle caches corrupted" or something like that. This means I am unable to use the latest version. The only version that does work is the 2-3 year old version I have lying around that still exists on my computer since it is in the downloads folder instead of the regular one and doesn't automatically get uninstalled. Help, please
