A Huge Minecraft Space Mod

Hello! If you have clicked on this post, I guess you want to know what it's all about! Trailblazer is a massive sci-fi story mod that I am currently working on. It is a work in progress, so is not finished yet, and I won't expect it to be released for some time. The point is, pretty much anything you want in space - even if it's not space related (It can be on a planet) - you can post it here, and I will try to put it in the mod. If your idea doesn't make it into full release (I have a roadmap for it and it's looking pretty big), then I will try to put all suggested features that could fit in the next major update (bugfixing will probably come first). Even if your idea doesn't fit (say you want a character from a game you play or something) I can still manage to fit it in - as a decorative toy, an NPC template or their clothes as an armour set!

More or less anything goes, it's not supposed to be a realistic mod :)

So, what is the mod about exactly? Why don't I just use Galacticraft?

Well, as I've already said, it's a space mod. However, unlike Galacticraft (a semi-realistic space mod), it's not about the grind. Getting to space doesn't take long - all you need is to wait for an event (No spoilers about what it is) which could happen from any time between when you first spawn and finish the game! However, the RNG used for determining the event won't be too rare, so you can be fairly certain of it happening in your first couple days. After this, only minimal (well, not exactly minimal, but considerably less than Galacticraft) resource gathering is required and you're off! There is a storyline (absolutely no spoilers about that!), which will hopefully be engaging and fun!

There will be spaceship battles, crew, NPCs, missions, quests, bounty hunting with procedurally generated enemies and many other interesting mechanics - even new status bars!

Say I don't go to space. Does it change anything in the Overworld?

You can expect Meteor showers for one thing! Meteors will occasionally fall from the sky near you, exploding on impact. In their core will be a new ore!

Also, Health and Hunger will not be shown any more (except for when you are on low health or hunger). There will also be a Tough as Nails addon for this feature. You will need to craft a Status Checker to view these, as well as your new stat bars.

I like some of those features! Can I get them without the main mod, so it can feel more vanilla-y?

Yes, you will be able to! I will have a separate mod page for different parts of the mod that I feel will work well without space. These will include the blacked-out Health and Hunger bars, and a modified version of the Bounty Hunting. These will not be compatible with the main mod as well, however.

That will be quite a while. However, if I have people helping me with it, making textures, models etc. it'll be quicker! If you contribute in this way, you will have your Minecraft skin (or, if you don't want to share your username, something related to your profile picture) as an NPC template. You can say if you would rather it was something else, and that's fine :)

 

Note: Development will take a long time before release. Do not expect the mod to be out soon. However, the main parts of the mod have been planned out.

Progress Bar

Please note that I am grouping most of these in stages of progression in the mod, rather than in element types (with the exception of ores and materials) because it's difficult to say how much of the different element types will be in the mod.

Planning (of what the mod's initial release is going to include): 60%

NPCs: 0% < This will take a long time to get the AI to seem natural, and also to get all of the different skin templates for them.

Planets: 4%

Storyline: 0%

Early Stages (before going into space): 95% (this has actually gone backwards a little, due to some issues with procedures meaning a rework is required)

Spaceships: 5%

Ores and Materials: 5%

Galaxy Map: 15%

The Arena

Stage 5 of the storyline

Possibly bounty hunting, but we'll see ;)

 

Should I release a public test version after I finish the first solar system or two? (It'll be far from finished at that point, but it'd be helpful to have bugs and issues pointed out early in development)

I have actually once made a space mod that has a working rocket. If you need help, I made the rocket a block that would teleport the player into it and it would go up. Once it detects it is at a height limit, I made it open up a GUI and select which planet to go to. You can either use the change dimension block or place the portal to the dimension using the execute block. Also if this is for 1.12, I used levitation 250 to make a low gravity feeling, and also jump boost. Hopefully this helped with your mod. Good luck on it!

This is pretty similar to my existing plans for spacecraft, but I didn't think of low gravity! The way mine work is that you have a console in the ship which lets you select planets. Selecting a planet causes the ship to travel into orbit around it, with small chances of events such as asteroid storms and an attack on the ship along the way. Then, you may 'beam down' onto the surface by entering into the portal that is in the centre of the ship.

Low gravity would certainly be a great idea for early, cheap ships, which would be difficult to get around and generally low-quality.

It seems like it will be an awesome mod :)

If you want a few ideas, here are them (I hope they are not too unrealistic XD)

  • Alien invasions that sometimes happen (maybe they only happen after the player has done a certain task or maybe the player has to get noticed by the aliens...)
  • Ancient ruins of alien spaceships found in the Overworld
  • Space pets! Those would be so cool XD
  • Some friendly aliens and some evil aliens that want to conquer the Universe...
  • Pocket black holes to travel between long distances or waste items...
  • Some Villagers that managed to go to the Moon...
  • Some rare mobs that look exactly like the player (maybe like Steve, because you can't change the texture of the mob based on the player's skin ...) and are found in some planets. Nobody knows where do they come from, maybe they are aliens that come from a planet similar to the Earth, maybe they are clones of you made by the aliens, maybe it's just you that time-traveled or traversed a strange black hole...

Ok, I'm exaggerating, but Minecraft this mod has a great potential :D

 

PS: How will you make the player go to other planets if the "switch dimension for provided entity" doesn't work...?

Ok, Fishcute, I have a few textures you could work on. Please could you do a few new stone textures? You can make them pretty much whatever you want so long as they are 16x16 and should blend well when next to each other :)

Do however many you feel like. I will make sure that your player skin is put in as an NPC template as well (unless you don't want that) - That's the reward for contributing.
