What Apps should I use instead of mcreator templates for my mod textures?

Hey guys, I'm new to mcreator. Can somebody suggest me some apps that makes textures better just than the built-in tool? My computer is a Mac and I don't think there is a version of paint.net for Mac. I can't download photoshop. PLS HELP!
