custom Redstone dust/wire?

Hello, can you now create custom redstone dust wire and use it as redstone? wanted to create another redstone dust/wire but no idea how. I wanted to create a yellow or a green or a blue dust/wire that would work just like redstone and have to be placed on the ground like the original redstone. is that possible?
