Check for player direction

Can you implement a procedure block for checking for player direction? This could be useful for rotatable blocks (using the event trigger "when block placed by") and a lot of other stuff like blocks that act like ice

Is entity looking at [>North/East/South/West/NE/NW/SE/SW] procedure block isn't easier?

There are quite a few explanations of it on the forums already. It returns the angle of the player, this is a very basic concept and more useful than a discrete result with only a few directions.
