Welcome To Confined!

Simply, you are only able to exist within a couple slivers of Minecraft! This is meant as a challenge more than anything, so feel free to play with a couple of other mods; i would recommend Treecapitator, but as long as it doesn't use redstone or multiblock structures, you should be fine!

Wouldn't it be possible to build your way out though?

The walls automatically surround the player to the positive and negative x. No, you could not escape. (Unless you were in creative mode, in which case the walls wouldn't spawn)
