I think a new feature for the next update of MCreator could be that, when you use an item to craft something, you can keep that item but have it turn into something else. You can already do this with Water Buckets and Milk in Minecraft, so I think we should be able to do that.
Yes, it's a very good idea ! But I think that you can already do this with a procedure, but I'm not sure.

I don't mean a custom crafting gui but when we use a water bucket in craft, it turn into Bucket
