Story of Raol's mods (as of October 2019)
Fri, 10/18/2019 - 14:08 (edited)

Hello everyone, this is the story of my mods.
Yes, this is not the first time I am writing it, but someone asked for a "sequel" of the previous one (if you are brave enough, you can read it here: https://mcreator.net/forum/36122/raolcraft-story, but it is kinda weird and my English back then was very bad).

Anyway, Minecraft has always been my favorite game since I first saw it on a computer (because Pocket Edition was very limited 5 years ago...).
After playing it for a long time (in creative mode, I only started playing survival years later...) a friend made me discover mods. They were for Minecraft 1.6.4, were hard to install and very bugged and laggy (I remember they made my computer crash every 5 minutes XD), but I was very excited.
After downloading many mods, I wanted to create one myself. I couldn't code (and I can't now too...), but I thought there should have been a software somewhere for creating custom mods...
So I went to the Internet and found MCreator. I thought it was awesome, but I tried downloading it and it sent my to a site I thought was a virus: adfly. So I thought MCreator itself was just too good to be real and so was a virus.

Some years later, I realized adfly just was a site for earning money based on on how many visitors see the ads and decided to try downloading MCreator again.
I tried creating a new ore and some new blocks but I couldn't find a playtest button. Until a friend (the same one who made me discover the mods) told me that to play your mods you have to press a button with a computer icon.
I realized he was right and started making a lot of little random mods (that I didn't really play, just create) for 1.6.4, the most popular version for modding back then.

Anyway, now that you know how I got introduced to MCreator, I should probably talk about my mods.
I joined MCreator 3 years and 3 months ago. As you might know by checking my profile, my first mod was RaolCraft. It was just a random mod I made for fun, not something I would have actually played.
I remember workspaces could easily get corrupted and I experienced that issue. RaolCraft got discontinued, so I created RaolCraft 2.
It was a mod where I literally added whatever I wanted. It somehow survived past 100 elements without getting corrupted so it won MOTW. I remember I was very excited that day, I didn't think I would have ever won that contest, and it motivated me so much to continue. I also remember RaolCraft 2 was the first mod to give some emerald gems to its author (gems were the user points when the website still was called mcreator.pylo.co). RaolCraft 2 got MOTW again, then its workspace eventually got corrupted.

So I remade it again. RaolCraft 3, like the predecessor, had no theme, but I remember I was very proud of its "alloy system" (which only was a group of crafting table recipes to convert ingots into dusts and combine the dusts but it was a lot to me XD).
RaolCraft 3 got MOTW 3 times (yes, there weren't many mods back then and they had to choose it 3 times :P) and also was in MCreator 2016 and 2017 recaps.
It also got corrupted and flagged as spawn a lot of times though (I remember I once got very nervous and said I was no longer using MCreator again... XD), but the MCreator staff always helped me with those issues.
I remember I edited the code of some elements in Raolcraft 3 (I only changed the stack sizes of ranged items and similar), so when I updated to a new MCreator version I had to unlock, regenerate code, then lock and edit again many elements and I was too lazy to do that so I actually decided to discontinue it.

I was undecised on what to do next, I thought of making some little themed mods, then I decided to remake RaolCraft again: I called it RaolCraft Omega (because there already was RaolCraft 4; and lol, I know I'm very creative with names).
It got MOTW a few time after it was released. It initially was very similar to RaolCraft 3, it only had improved textures and less bugs (unlike the predecessor, you could actually play it in survival).

Then things started to change. Procedures were introduced and RaolCraft changed completely. Machines, bosses with powerful abilities and rituals began to appear. I also started creating new mob models, rather than using zombies for everything, and thinking before adding a new feature. And I also started to actually play my mod in survival.
By playing it, I realized that its huge number of features had little impact on the game, so I decided RaolCraft Omega needed a change. A theme.
I created a topic about it and many people suggested great ideas. I also wrote a random plot (a great world which was split into many elemental dimensions) which evolved with the time.
So RaolCraft, from a random ore mod with a few tech, agricolture and magic stuff, became an elemental exploration mod which also has some random features.

I also released new mods: Modular Expansion, a collection of little mods to improve or make easier the game (which I actually made because I hadn't time to find Enderpearls in my survival worlds :P) and Pyromancy, a magic automation mod I made to try creating something actually original and balanced (Pyromancy got MOTW just a few weeks ago). I've also added Connected Textures Support to most of my mods.

Then, during the winter, a great modder stopped modding. And that modder was Eonaut. He is the author of Hodge-Podge, the Natural Woods and Fate/Craft (some awesome mods, you should check them). He was looking for a successor for Hodge-Podge and he chose me. I accepted and tried to continue updating Hodge-Podge II, but I couldn't because of some issues so I decided to remake it, similarly to RaolCraft: so Hodge-Podge III was born. Right now it isn't as big as the previous one, but I will do my best to readd all the original content. It got MOTW this week.

This year (2019), after the final alpha update of RaolCraft (which added the Original World, the Dark Emperor, a few plot twists and a lot of stuff), RaolCraft and Hodge-Podge finally got compatible each other (before the most recent MCreator updates, RaolCraft was known for its numerous incompatibilities).
They even got a crossover update, which added some items that can only be found when both mods are being played.

Now, what's next?
This autumn and this winter I will release many updates for Hodge-Podge III, bringing all the missing content. Then, I will release 2 new mods: a sci-fi one and a secret one (you can find more info about this here: https://mcreator.net/forum/52936/hodge-podge-age-and-future-raols-mods)

It's all thanks to Pylo and the MCreator community if these mods existed, thank you for everything :)

Mcreator changed a lot these years, so did I, as a modder and as a person (and my English improved a lot honestly XD).

I know this text is long. I hope it did not bore you :P

This is not my first time I wrote it, not write it.

Yes, but it still isn't as popular as before

And I wrote "write" because I was still writing when I wrote that word (sorry for the repetition XD)

Maybe "I am writing" would be more correct
