How to promote a Minecraft mod and its mod page

Have you made the best Minecraft mod ever, but are not sure how to spread the word about it and get as many users as possible?

On this page, we explain a few free ways how one can promote the mod. By promoting a mod, we mean making more people aware of your mod, checking its mod page, downloading and installing it, and ideally also leaving feedback. In other words, here we explain how to drive traffic to your mod page and make sure users engage by downloading your mod once on the page and trying it out.

Social networks

One way to get people to learn about your mod is to share it on social networks and link to the mod page. If you make a post on our Reddit subreddit, you can also cross-post it to other subreddits, given you follow the rules of the subreddit you are cross-posting to. If you share the mod on platforms like Twitter, make sure to include relevant hashtags and try to get as many retweets/shares/(the term the social network uses) as possible.

You can also join Discord servers that allow sharing and showcasing your mods. On those servers, you can also get fast feedback from the users that try out your mod, which is very valuable.

A similar case is with Minecraft forums. Find Minecraft forums that allow sharing and showcasing your mod, as well as collecting feedback, ideas, or even performing votes for the next big feature of your Minecraft mod.

Sharing with friends

An organic approach to driving traffic to your mod is sharing it with your friends. If your friends like your mod, chances are they will share it with their own friends, or invite friends to their server equipped with your mod.

Mod sharing platforms

MCreator's website allows you to upload your mod. We are not the only platform allowing this, though. Some more notable examples of mod-sharing platforms are CurseForge and Modrinth. When sharing to CurseForge, make sure to mark your mod with the MCreator tag as they support it.

Linking from Modrinth or CurseForge to the MCreator community page of your mod and vice versa from the MCreator community page to mod-sharing platforms also increases the chances of getting users from one platform to upvote/comment/etc. your mod on other platforms too.

YouTube reviews and playthroughs

You can make a YouTube playthrough or showcase video that shows the people why they should check your mod out. If you know someone with a YouTube channel and userbase, you can also ask them for a shoutout or a review of the mod. The more reviews and showcases, the more chances of someone getting across your mod while watching Minecraft-related video content.

Mod of the week

Another good way to spread the word about your mod is to submit it for mod of the week. If your mod wins the contest in a given week, it will be promoted on our social channels, on the website, and on MCreator's workspace selector window in the software itself for a week, exposing the mod to a big audience of potential users.

Good mod page

Once the users are on your mod page, make sure to make a good and catchy description with images and even animations, so users get hooked and want to actually download the mod and try it out. The description should show any potential new interesting mechanics the mod adds.

Make sure to include relevant keywords in your mod page. This way, our website's search engine, as well as internet search engines are more likely to pick up your mod page and also to show it higher in the search results. You can also check SEO (search engine optimization) guides to see how one can increase Google search results rank, for example.

Also make sure to include a link to your mod page or website in the mod description in the game, so users can reach back to you and know the mod author. This way you can get feedback from the mod users. This is especially important when dealing with Minecraft mod packs that use your mod.
